Canakkale

As I have been woken early with the call to prayer from the local mosque and the secular call of a phone in the next room I thought I would record a few more thoughts.

Last night as I was sitting in a lovely restaurant looking across the Dardenelles (1st photo).

I was reflecting on my trip to Gallipoli and the fact that it is a site not just important for New Zealanders and Australians but also for the Turks. Mustafa Ataturk changed not only the course of their part in the war but also the history of Turkey and made it a very welcoming place.

I enjoyed watching people walking along the Canakkale promenade, couples holding hands, and generally appreciating each other's company. It has also been fascinating being the only non Turkish person in the hotel!

Anyway see the second photo for my transport for the next leg of my journey.
